Intuitive Eating: Step by Step Guide

The 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating can seem daunting at first, and it’s difficult to know where to start. With this guide, you’ll find 1 action you can do today that will help you quickly begin each principle of Intuitive Eating.

Principle 1: Ditching the Scale

I felt equal parts excitement and fear. I wasn’t sure if I could do it, if I could begin intuitive eating after years of disordered eating. But I decided to read it and give myself a test run. I wanted a way to feel food freedom in my life.

Principle 2: Understanding Hunger

I did not truly know what it was like to be hungry. I only knew what it was like to be ravenous. And when you’re ravenous, the pleasure of eating is quite diminished. In order to begin intuitive eating, I needed to learn about hunger.

Principle 3: Making Peace With Food

For years I believed there were certain foods I just couldn’t have around. Because when I was around them, I was out of control. These experiences were embarrassing and led to discomfort. I needed to make peace with food.

Principle 4: Food Police

When laws are broken, we risk police involvement. Similarly, when we break our own rules around food, our thoughts begin to sound a lot like law enforcement. To eat intuitively, you will need to challenge the food police.
